When generating a buffer of a layer of points, as a result you get a polygon with a radius determined by each point of origin. In short, this process generates a circular surface. But sometimes a square surface may be needed.
This entry shows the process to create a “square” buffer. It should be noted that it only applies for a layer of points. Initially it is necessary to create a zone of influence, as normally it is done with the Buffer tool located in the following direction:
ArcToolbox > Analysis Tools > Proximity
In the configuration window, to create the buffer as input data place the layer of points, and set the distance for the zone of influence (250 m). Now a function is required that wraps in a square to the generated buffer, for this use the Feature Envelope To Polygon tool located in:
ArcToolbox > Data Management Tools > Features
The configuration of this tool is very simple, simply as input information is placed the layer of the zone of influence created previously, and accept. With this simple process it has been possible to create a “square” buffer using ArcGIS.
