Creating and Managing “Feature Class” (Points, Lines, and Polygons) in ArcGIS Pro

The basic procedure for creating a “Feature Class” was previously introduced, but this section focuses on its use within a geodatabase environment to take advantage of advanced data management functionalities.

Structure of the “Features Class”.

To create a “Feature Class” named POPULATE_P inside the geodatabase City.gdb, navigate to the dataset named A_HUMAN_CONCENTRATION, right-click on it, and select New > Feature Class.

In the first step of the dialog box, enter POPULATE_P in the Name field and select Point as the Feature Class Type.

In the second step, configure the fields following the structure provided in Table 12. Be sure to define the length for text fields under the Length column. If a field requires a domain, select it from the Domain dropdown located at the bottom of the dialog box. It is important to ensure that the domain type is compatible with the field type. For example, a domain defined as Text cannot be applied to a Short integer field.

In the third step, define the coordinate system. For this example, select WGS 1984 UTM Zone 17S.

From the fourth to the sixth steps, keep the default values and proceed by clicking Finish.

This process should be repeated for each additional “Feature Class” described in Table 12, modifying the name, geometry type, fields, and domain assignments accordingly.
