image space

[data structures] The x,y coordinate space defined by the number of columns and rows in a raster dataset. The origin of image space is commonly the center of the top left pixel of the data and is labeled (0,0). The x-axis corresponds to the number of columns in the raster, and the y-axis to the number of rows. For raster data to be used in GIS software, image space must be transformed to a real-world coordinate system through georeferencing.
