[standards] A publication authored by the FGDC that specifies the information content of metadata for digital geospatial datasets. The purpose of the standard is to provide a common set of terminology and definitions for concepts related to the metadata. All U.S. government agencies (federal, state, and local) that receive federal funds to create metadata must follow this standard.
