[ESRI software] In ArcGIS software, a digital map feature that represents a place or thing that has length but not area at a given scale. A polyline feature may have one or more parts. For example, a stream is typically a polyline feature with one part. If the stream goes underground and later reemerges, it might be represented as a multipart polyline feature with discontinuous parts. If the stream diverges around an island and then rejoins itself, it might be represented as a multipart polyline feature with branching parts. A multipart polyline feature is associated with a single record in an attribute table.
