selective availability

[GPS] The intentional degradation by the U.S. Department of Defense of the GPS signal for civilian receivers, which could cause errors in position of up to 100 meters. Selective availability (S/A) was removed from the civilian signal in May 2000. Since the lifting of S/A restrictions, position accuracy levels have improved to 20 meters or less.
